About Madrid

Madrid is the capital and largest city of Spain. The population of the city is roughly 3.3 million and the entire population of the Madrid metropolitan area comes close to 6.3 million. The city is located on the Manzanares river. As the capital city of Spain, seat of government, and residence of the Spanish monarch, Madrid is also the political centre of Spain.

Madrid's attractions for the visitor are many: astonishing art galleries, relentless nightlife, its transformation into Spain's premier style city, an exceptional live music scene, a feast of restaurants and tapas bars, and a population that has mastered the art of living the good life.

Very few Madrileños come from here originally, a fact that possibly makes the city Europe's most open and welcoming capital. If you're in Madrid, you're from Madrid is an often-heard phrase that sums up the city's way of life.
